The button, which appears to be original to the pouch, is either a UK or US import, marked "For Gentlemen"; it was apparently taken from available civilian stores as a wartime expediency.

At that point, Leningrad was practically out of food supplies and its civilians were dying by the thousands from hunger and cold. Yet, the city's factories were still running and producing supplies for the front.
