His name is inscribed in gold on the blue enameled border around the center medallion. The reverse center medallion features the Venezuelan coat of arms.
In very fine condition, showing just two small chips to the blue enamel and very minor wear to the gilt of the rays. The suspension ribbon appears to be of the period, possibly original, and shows minor wear.
The Order of the Liberator was established by Venezuelan President Antonio Guzman Blanco on 14 September 1880. It was the highest decoration of the country, bestowed for services, outstanding merit and benefits for the country. In 1922 the order was reformed under the presidential term of Juan Vicente Gomez. Part of the re-design was that Simon Bolivar's bas-relief on the obverse center medallion became right-facing. The order was awarded until 2010 when the National Assembly of Venezuela decided to abolish and replace it with the newly created Order of Liberators of Venezuela.
