Neck Medal of the Second Place Winner (Silver) of a Sports Championship of Latvian SSR, 1968 - 1986.
In silver-plated brass and enamels; a very large and massive piece: the medallion measures 57.1 mm in height incl. eyelet, 50.1 mm in width, and 4.1 mm thick at the edge; overall height with suspension is 70 mm (over 2 ¾"); the medallion weighs 65.3 g; overall weight is 72.7 g including the suspension.
The obverse shows the national emblem of Latvian SSR in high 3-d profile and raised inscription in Latvian "Championship of Latvian SSR" with the Roman numeral II signifying the 2nd place winner. The inscription on the reverse reads "Committee of Physical Culture and Sports at the Council of Ministers of L(atvian)SSR". The suspension features a stylized flag of Latvian SSR in high-quality "hot-baked" enamels and has a slot for the neck ribbon. Overall, an exceptionally well-made and impressive award!
Excellent condition. The medallion has some tiny dings and contact marks, mostly along the edge, but its raised details are nicely preserved and crisp. The silver finish is largely intact, showing only very minor wear to the high points of the national emblem. The enamel on the suspension is perfect and shows a magnificent luster. The brass tab for the neck ribbon is intact.
