Japan, Order of the Precious Crown, 8th class, in original fitted box of issue.

The badge is in silver, 47.1 mm in length (incl. eyelet), 38.2 mm in width. Suspended from a flat metal loop on a bow ribbon of moiré silk, yellow with a red stripe 5 mm from each edge. The reverse is plain. Comes with the original lapel pin.

The badge and bow ribbon are in excellent condition, just a tiny spot of verdigris to the center medallion but no other wear visible to the naked eye.

The lapel pin is 11.8 mm wide with a fully functional pin attachment, in pristine condition.

The case of issue is in black high-gloss lacquered wood, measuring approx. 13 x 10 x 3 cm. Inside, it is lined with purple silk, with a fitted pad for the badge and space for the bow ribbon. The lid features the title in kanji, in gilt.

The case is in excellent condition, showing only a negligible amount of storage wear. The lacquer is vibrantly shiny, the gold-plated kanji on the lid is pristine, the latch is a bit loose on its hinge but in good working order.

The Order of the Sacred Crown, aka Golden Crown, Precious Crown, and Crown of Japan, was established by Imperial Edict on January 4, 1988, and is considered equal in rank to the Order of the Rising Sun. It is bestowed on women only, and in higher classes was conferred only on royalty and nobility with rare exceptions. The lower classes are used as an order of merit but are seldom awarded. Originally established in 5 classes, it was expanded by three more in 1896. The 7th and 8th classes were abolished in 2003.
