Silver gilt and enamels, 74.0 mm in diameter, weighing 92.2 g. The reverse is gold-plated, with the usual engraved characters meaning "order of merit decoration".

In very fine condition. Most of the white-enameled rays show hairlines; some of the long rays are very slightly bent inward. Four of the larger and two of the smaller jewels show minor wear ranging from a flake to multiple hairlines. The worst "offenders" are shown in our close-up photos. The wear does not stand out without magnification and is not too intrusive to the eye.

The Order of the Sacred Treasure was founded by Emperor Meiji's edict of 1 January 1888 to be bestowed upon persons who had rendered distinguished service to the state. It was awarded to the military and civilians, and is presently constituted, albeit since 2003 in six, versus the original eight, classes.
