East Germany, Young FDJ Activist Medal, circa 1970s.
The medallion is in steel with gold-colored coating, measures 30 mm wide. The suspension is in paints and clear resin, and shows the images of the badges of FDJ ("Frei Deutsche Jugend", Free German Youth, similar to the Soviet Young Communists League aka Komsomol) and FDGB, Free German Trade Union Federation which awarded these medals to deserving FDJ members, workers of state-owned companies, for outstanding performance in their workplace. The raised inscription on the reverse reads "For outstanding achievements in socialist competition." The medal comes with its original issue case in white plastic with a cardboard insert fitted to hold the medal.
In excellent condition: the medal has no wear visible to the naked eye; the pin attachment is fully functional. The outer surfaces of the box are very lightly scuffed, the scuffing virtually invisible unless the box is tilted to reflect a bright light.
