East Germany, Bronze Medal for 10 Years of Loyal Service in the Maritime Industry, circa 1960s-70s.
In brass, the medallion measures 32 mm. The inscription in raised relief on the reverse reads "For Loyal Service." The issue box is in light cardboard, laminated with leatherette-textured blue paper. Inside, the fitted space for the medal is lines with ersatz short-nap velvet, the lid is lined with light foam rubber.
The medal is in very fine to excellent condition: just very slight pitting to the obverse. The ribbon bar perfectly clean, the brass sticker with the anchor is in place and wear-free. The issue box shows moderate wear to the blue laminate paper and corner separations on the left side. The fabric hinge is a little loose due to a tear to the laminate paper covering it.
Medal for Loyal Service in the Maritime Industry ("Medaille für treue Dienste in der Seeverkehrswirtschaft") was established on 1 July 1965 in three grades, with additional embellishments, to recognize faithful service in maritime transport and inland navigation: 10 years service (bronze), 20 years service (silver), 30 years service (gold), 35 years service (gold with honor clasp for women), 40 years service (gold with honor clasp for men).
