Lenin Komsomol Automobile Factory (AZLK), Moscow, Commemorative Badge, 1970s-80s.

Anodized aluminum, paint, lacquer; 34.7 x 48.9 mm, a large and impressive badge. The center shows the red factory trademark with the Kremlin wall and tower signifying its location in the Soviet capital. The reverse shows the raised logo ФСС ("FSS") of the Experimental Factory of Sports Souvenirs and Badges in Moscow. Excellent condition.

During the Soviet era, the AZLK was most famous for producing sedans of the Moskvich ("Muscovite") brand. Although plagued with all kinds of reliability problems, this model was often the middle-ground option for many Soviet consumers, being a step above the low-end Zaporozhets but far less costly and more easily available than the popular Lada or prestigious Volga. The factory went bankrupt in 2010, and its facilities were later used by the French car maker Renault. After the invasion of Ukraine and flight of foreign capital, the factory seized production but more recently reverted to manufacturing a resurrected Moskvich brand, now apparently a copy of a Chinese model.

Please note, the penny in our photo is for size reference.
