In silver gilt, enamels, measures 64.1 in height (incl. crown), 39.3 mm in width. Suspended from a royal crown and ring worn on a threaded ribbon which appears to be original, in red and white moiré silk. The year1867 on the reverse is the year of establishment of the Netherlands Red Cross.

In excellent condition. The 3 o'clock arm of the cross on the obverse has a tiny round depression to the enamel, a manufacturing flaw, not related to wear and not affecting the condition. The red enamel of the 9 o'clock arm shows a tiny scratch visible only at strong magnification when tilting it to reflect a bright light. The suspension ribbon shows minimal wear to the sides near the suspension ring, otherwise free of any significant wear and very clean.

The cross (Kruis van Verdienste van Nederlandische Roode Kruis) was instituted by royal decree on 27 November 1914. It was awarded to individuals in recognition of meritorious services rendered to or through the Dutch Red Cross.
