East Germany, Medal for Faithful Service in the National People's Army, Silver for 10 Years of Service, Late 1970s.
In silvered brass, the medallion measures 35 mm wide, on pentagonal suspension. The inscription encircling the obverse reads "For Faithful Service, DDR National People's Army". The inscription around the East Germany state emblem on the reverse reads "For Protection of the Workers' and Peasants' Power." The original presentation box has black plastic bottom lined with light foam rubber inside, the lid is in Plexiglas.
The medal is in excellent condition. Both pin attachments are clean and functional. The lid of the box is lightly scuffed; the scuffing does not obscure the medal inside.
The medal (original name "Medaille für treue Dienste in der Nationalen Volksarmee") was instituted on 1 June 1956 in four grades: bronze for 5 years of service, silver for 10 years, gold for 15, and gold with colored flag and Roman numerals "XX" on the ribbon bar for 20 years of service. It was presented to members of the NVA and Stasi, as well as individuals who actively supported the NVA and Stasi.
