Military Photo ID of Commander of the 1062nd Rifle Regiment, 281st Rifle Division, 54th Army, Leningrad Front, issued by the division's command on 7 February 1942 to Lieutenant Colonel Nikolai Deshko (Николай Петрович Дешко).
In booklet format measuring 3" x 2", in plain cardboard cover. The wording on the front cover reads "CERTIFICATE, People's Commissariat of Defense of the Union of SSR." According to the ID, Deshko was born in 1901. It should be noted that this ID was issued about a week after the 281st Rifle Division had been withdrawn for refitting, depleted after almost three weeks of continuous combat near the village of Pogostye about 50 miles southeast of Leningrad, an early and unsuccessful counteroffensive attempt to relieve the besieged Leningrad.
In excellent condition: mild wear to the cover, a glue stain on p. 3, not obscuring the handwritten entry. The paper of the internal pages shows light age-toning; the ID photo is in sharp focus and mostly clear of wear. The ink stamp of the 281st Rifle Division validating the photo is partially blurred but the name and number of the division is quite legible. The binding staple is slightly rusted on the outside but clean on the inside, strong and tight.
