Government Postal Cover commemorating philately exhibition Astronomy, Aviation, Cosmonautics - 91.
The size is 6 ¼" x 4 ½", postally unused, published by the Ministry of Communications of the USSR, circulation unknown. The pre-printed postal stamp is canceled with the First Day stamp issued by the town of Gagarin, dated 09 - 20 March 1991. The artwork in the left panel of the obverse features a smiling Yuri Gagarin and is captioned with the phrase "dedicated to the 30th anniversary of man's first space flight." The name of the artist, Yu. Artsimenev, is printed on the bottom flap on the verso.
In excellent, near-mint condition.
The town of Gzhatsk, a few miles west of Moscow, was renamed "Gagarin" for the obvious reason that the first cosmonaut was born in a village in the Gzhatsk District.
