Order of Friendship of Nations, #3524, circa mid-1970s.
Silver gilt, enamels; medallion measures 51.1 mm in height (incl. the eyelet), 47.2 mm in width; weighs 42.1 g not including the suspension and connecting link. Riveted multi-piece construction, superb quality throughout. Note the exceptionally low serial number.
Excellent condition. The enamels are perfect, showing a beautiful luster and completely free of even microscopic flaws that could be found under a 10x magnification. The details of the artwork are pristine. The fire gilt finish on the rays is nicely preserved and bright.
Comes on an original two-piece suspension device in aluminum and steel with a perfectly preserved old ribbon. The connecting link appears to be original; its ends are joined with solder in a seamless manner characteristic of the Soviet Mint.
This is a truly superb specimen in every respect. Its low four-digit serial number makes it very likely that the order was bestowed upon a VIP. It was probably awarded within three to four years after this award was instituted in 1972, certainly well ahead of the vast majority of other Orders of Friendship of Nations issued over the years. This represents excellent potential for future archival research.
