Order of the October Revolution, Variation 1, #20995, circa early 1970s issue.
Silver gilt, 10 K gold (hammer and sickle emblem), and enamels; measures 43.8 mm in height (incl. eyelet), 43.3 mm in width; weighs 31.2 g not including the suspension and connecting link. Variation 1, featuring four attachment rivets (as opposed to five rivets on Variation 2).
In excellent condition. The enamel is essentially perfect, completely free of wear visible to the naked eye; it has only a couple of microscopic contact marks that can be found with a 10x loupe but are unnoticeable without magnification. The enamel on both the banner and star shows a magnificent luster. The details of the center medallion are perfect and exceptionally crisp. Traces of the fragile original gilt finish are still visible on the starburst. The rivets are perfectly tight.
Comes on original suspension device, a two-layer model in aluminum. The old, probably original ribbon remains sound and clean. The connecting link appears to be original; its ends are still joined with solder in a seamless manner characteristic of the Soviet mint. Overall, an outstanding and relatively early example of the second-highest Soviet decoration.
