Special edition postcard commemorating the super-long-distance flight of the IL-18D airplane from Moscow to Antarcticа and back, 1980.
The size is 6" x 4", postally unused and unmarked, published by the Ministry of Communications of the USSR, circulation unknown. The obverse features a special-issue preprinted government postal stamp showing the Wind Rose and the scientific research vessel the Professor Wiese. The artwork on the left side shows the route of the flight from Moscow to the Molodyozhnaya Station in Antarctica.
Both sides are in near-mint condition.
The flight took place in February 1980. The entire flight to Antarctica and back took almost 79 hours and covered about 45,660 km (28,378 miles).
