The size is 6" x 4", postally unused, published by the Ministry of Communications of the USSR, circulation unknown. The preprinted government postal stamp on the verso is not canceled but the message space shows the First Day stamp of the VI Sparkiada of the USSR Nations issued by the Vilnius Post Office and dated with the dates of the games, 3 - 12 July 1975. The obverse has a special commemorative postal stamp of the VI Spartakiada affixed and canceled with the First Day stamp. Overall, an unusual and interesting approximation to the proper First Day format.

In excellent condition, showing only a barely noticeable concave warp to the paper where the First Day stamp was put.

A Spartakiada (aka "Spartakiad" or "Spartakiade") was a mass international or national sports event on par with the Olympics. The Soviet Union sponsored many of them to both oppose and supplement the Olympics. The name Spartakiada is derived from "Spartacus," the ancient Roman slave rebel leader, and was intended to symbolize proletarian internationalism and stand in opposition to the exalted aristocratic symbolism of the ancient Olympic Games.
