Postcard Commemorating the 90th Anniversary of Pyotr Nesterov, Russian pilot, aircraft designer and aerobatics pioneer, canceled with 1st Day Stamp, 1977.
The size is continental 6" x 4", postally unused, features an uncommonly formatted special edition government postal stamp canceled with the 1st Day stamp of the Gorky Post Office, dated 27 February 1977. The artwork on the left side presents a portrait of Pyotr Nesterov (1887 - 1914), a military pilot of the Imperial Russian Army who pioneered an aerobatic maneuver named after him, the Nesterov Loop, aka "The Dead Loop" - a vertical closed loop which Nesterov performed for the first time on 9 September 1913.
In excellent condition, near-pristine on both sides.
