Postcard commemorating 25th anniversary of the Mirny Soviet Antarctic Observatory, 1981.
The size is continental 6" x 4", postally unused, features an uncommonly shaped special edition postal stamp showing a couple of emperor penguins peeking at an early version of the Soviet Kharkovchanka snowmobile. The artwork on the left side presents the Mikhail Somov, the Soviet scientific expeditionary vessel designed to handle ice up to 70 cm thick. The inscription reads "27 years to the Soviet Antarctic Observatory Mirny". Published by the Ministry of Communications of the USSR, circulation unknown.
In superb, near-mint condition. The verso is unmarked and perfectly clean.
