Medal for Restoration of the Ferrous Metallurgy of the South, late 1940s - early 50s.

In brass; measures 37.3 mm in height incl. eyelet, 32.1 mm wide; weighs 17.4 g not including the suspension and connecting link.

In excellent condition. The medallion is completely free of any wear visible to the naked eye and has only a few microscopic contact marks that are completely unnoticeable without magnification. The raised details are perfect and exceptionally crisp on both sides. The original "gilt" mint luster is very nicely preserved and bright on both sides, having only a minimal amount of tarnish on the reverse, mostly along the edge, that adds character; there are no significant blemishes.

The medal comes on a period suspension device, a single-layer model in brass with an integral catch of the pin. The old, probably original ribbon shows a minor amount of wear along the edges and minimal soiling but is still very presentable and sound (in our opinion, it is much preferable to a brand-new ribbon but we will add a sufficient length of the latter on the side just in case the new owner prefers it). The connecting link appears to be of the period as well.

Overall, a very attractive example of one of the earliest Soviet post-war medals.
