Government Postal Cover, addressed to Marshal of the Soviet Union Vasilevskiy, Minister of Armed Forces of the USSR, 1951.

The size is 6" x 4 ½", postally used. Three postal stamps which include a pre-printed government stamp are cancelled, the cancels are dated 5 November 1951. The Moscow cancel on the verso is dated 3 December 1951. The cover is addressed personally to the Minister of Armed Forces of the Soviet Union Comrade Vasilevskiy. Тhe letter was sent Registered Mail, as evidenced by the rectangular registered mail stamp on the left side of the obverse.

In very good condition. The letter must have been officially processed and filed, judging by the filing punch holes on the left side. The paper is very clean and slightly wrinkled. Unfortunately, the cover was ripped out of the file, leaving tears on the left side. However, they do not obscure any text or stamps. Five tiny holes are evident, punched from the verso. Though visible, they are not too intrusive to the eye or detractive. The address was filled in using a quill pen, probably at the local post office. It was not uncommon that the ink in the inkwells for public use was diluted with water, resulting in faded-looking inscriptions. The handwriting, however, is clear and perfectly legible.
