Postcard 40 Years After. Reunion of Veterans of the 56th Female Fighter Air Regiment, 1998.

The size is continental 6" x 4", postally unused and unmarked. Published by Svet-Info Corp., circulation unknown. The artist's name, Sergey Bocharov, is printed in the upper left-hand corner on the verso. His hand signature is seen in the lower right-hand corner of the artwork. The artwork is an offset print from Bocharov's 1982-1985 oil-on-canvas painting.

In excellent, pristine condition.

In October 1941 the famous female pilot Marina Raskova formed three female aviation regiments: 586th (fighters), 587th (bombers), and 588th (nighttime light bombers, the legendary Night Witches). The pilots were trained in the city of Engels on the Volga. After graduating from the pilot school, many female fighter pilots of the 586th regiment were transferred to other, "male" fighter regiments. So, the title of Bocharov's painting was not exactly accurate. It captured the reunion of the female fighter pilots that served in the 56th Order of the Red Banner Fighter Air Regiment. During the Patriotic War, the regiment participated in many major operations such as the Belorussian Bagration offensive, the Budapest offensive, the Balaton Defensive Operation, and the Vienna offensive.
