Postcard Ships Breaking Through from Tallinn to Kronstadt, 1976.

The size is continental 6" x 4", unmailable without a cover. Published by the Visual Arts Publishing House, Moscow. Circulation 250,000 copies. Part of a set or series of postcards with Soviet Navy-themed artwork. The artist's name, I. Rodinov, is printed at the bottom on the verso. The artwork is an offset print of Rodinov's painting.

In excellent, superb condition.

The verso has a description of the WW2 event depicted in the painting. On 28 August 1941, a convoy of several Baltic Fleet ships and civilian transport vessels ventured to transport the troops of the 10th Rifle Corps, militia battalions, and civilian population of Tallinn from Tallinn's port to Kronstadt. The convoy was shelled from the enemy shore batteries and bombed by German aviation while having to find their way through dense mine fields. The larger part of the convoy was able to reach their destination. More than 18,000 battle-tried troops were delivered to Kronstadt and made a significant contribution to the defense of Leningrad.
