Brass, enamels; 41.5 x 27.3 mm; weighs 12.0 g not including the screw plate. A very large, well-made and impressive piece. Features the Order of Lenin awarded to the school, medical emblem, and dates "1956-1981". The inscription along the upper edge is "S.M. Kirov Naval Academy".

Excellent condition. The enamel is perfect and shows a very attractive luster (some slightly uneven areas are manufacturing imperfections, not a result of wear.) The screw post is full length, over 11 mm, and includes a period screw plate that fits perfectly.

The naval department of the Kirov Military Medical Academy was formed in 1956 on the basis of the former Naval Medical Academy that was disbanded that year for unknown reasons. This very uncommon badge was apparently issued to the faculty and staff of the department, and possibly to some of the VIP graduates to commemorate its anniversary.
