Badge to a Serviceman of the Odessa Military District for Participation in the Clean-up at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Station, late 1980s - early 90s issue.

Aluminum, paint; 57.3 x 39.9 mm. The inscription КОдВО "KOdVO" on the banner is the Russian acronym for the Order of the Red Banner Odessa Military District. The inscription immediately below is "To a Participant of the Liquidation of the Consequences of the Accident". The writing near the bottom is "ChAES (Chernobyl Atomic Power Station) named (in honor of) V.I. Lenin." The reverse shows the Soviet-era logo of the Household Metal Goods Factory in Kiev.

Excellent condition. The paint and anodized finish are completely intact, the pin attachment fully functional.

This interesting piece is one of the series of badges issued by various military districts to Chernobyl liquidators who were active-duty servicemen. The Odessa Military badge however is much larger and of different design than most of the rest. It is also far less common than the others.

Please note that the penny in our photo is for size reference.
