Medal for the Capture of Berlin, Variation 1, circa 1945-46 issue.
In brass; 37.8 mm in height incl. eyelet, 32.2 mm wide; weighs 16.5 g not including the suspension and connecting link.
In outstanding, excellent condition. With the exception of a few minuscule, barely noticeable dings to the raised edge on the obverse, both sides are free of wear visible to the naked eye. The raised details are pristine and exceptionally crisp. The toning to the brass is uniform and attractive, free of blemishes or oxidation spots.
The medal comes on a late-1940s suspension device, a single-layer model in brass. The beautifully preserved old ribbon appears to be of the period. The connecting link likewise appears to be original to the medal. Overall, an unusually nice example of the Variation 1 Berlin Medal.
