Award Banner to Winner of Socialist Competition, Lithuanian Separate Aviation Group of Civil Air Fleet, 1957-1964.
In heavy double-layer silk, measures approx. 87" x 52" excluding the fringe but including the 3.5"-wide flagpole sleeve; weighs over 5 lbs.. The obverse features Lenin's embroidered profile portrait resting on a laurel wreath. The inscription under it reads "Transferrable Banner to the Winner of Socialist Competition." The reverse has the embroidered State Emblem of the USSR centerpiece. The inscription under it specifies the winner, Lithuanian Separate Aviation Group of Civil Air Fleet. Two massive gold tassels on a thick twisted cord are attached to the flag at the top of the flagpole sleeve.
In excellent condition. The only wear is an area of discoloration on the left side of the obverse, and two small dark smudges on the reverse. We have put a quarter coin next to the smudges to give you an idea of their size. The discoloration is practically lost in the rich moiré sheen of the silk; the dark smudges are visible but insignificantly small against the large area of the flag.
In 1957, as one link in a series of reorganizations of the Soviet Civil Aviation structure, the Western Transport Directorate of the Civil Air Fleet was disbanded, and the Lithuanian group of it was named Lithuanian Separate Aviation Group of Civil Air Fleet. This name remained until the next reorganization in 1964. Thus, this flag could be manufactured and awarded only during a very short period of time, making it a truly rare item.
