Komsomolskaya Pravda ("The Komsomol Truth"), Day One of the Historic XX Congress of the CPSU, Nikita Khrushchev's speech, 15 February 1956.

Expanded 12-page issue to fit Nikita Khrushchev's report to the delegates of the XX Congress of CPSU, a lengthy self-aggrandizing affair which started each and every one of the Communists' congresses. In this speech Khrushchev still praised Stalin. However, a few days into the Congress, the press and all the guests present were made to leave, and Khrushchev made another, secret, speech only to the delegates of the congress, denouncing Stalin and the cult of his personality. This speech became the cornerstone of the massive campaign of "de-stalinization" that followed the congress and lasted for several years. It was done Soviet style, by physically removing books, films, monuments, all kinds of images of Stalin of which there were millions, from the public eye. Mandatory "clarification" speeches by local communist activists were made, denouncing Stalin as fervently as they used to worship him. Many political GULAG prisoners were released and "rehabilitated," their civil rights and liberties returned to them. To some of them, posthumously.

In very good to excellent condition. The paper is moderately and evenly age-toned and is worn through at the intersection of the fold lines and shows mild fraying along the fold lines of the outer page when the newspaper is folded in four, not too intrusive to the eye or detractive. The text is crisp and perfectly legible.

Please note that the pen in our photo is for size reference.
