Cheka Instructions on Execution of Red Terror Raids in the cities of Rostov and Nakhichevan, circa January 1920.

Single page 8" x 11 ¾", front only. The document contains step-by-step instructions on execution of raids on the citizens of the cities of Rostov and Nakhichevan, presumably issued in January 1920 after these cities had been captured by Budyonny's First Cavalry Army. The goal of the raids, formulated in the opening sentence of the instructions is to find hidden weapons, military gear and foods, medicines and surgical supplies belonging to the "counterrevolutionary elements" avoiding registration with the Soviets. The scope of the categories of individuals under suspicion is so comprehensive that it would be easier to list the categories outside of this scope: Bolshevik party members with VKP(b) IDs, and the top-level functionaries of the Soviet organizations. Lip service to civility is stated in Item 13: "Members of the raiding squads should display polite attitude, without shouting and threats."

In fair to good condition. The paper is low-quality and has become rather frail. The edges and corners show multiple rips and creases; the fold lines have separations the worst of which have been repaired with library tape. However, all the text is mostly intact and perfectly legible.
