Ogonyok #10, March 8, 1953. Weekly Soviet magazine, "Mourning" issue just three days after Stalin's death.
Measures 10" x 13", 16 pp. excluding the cover (a "regular" issue had 32 pages). Dedicated entirely to Stalin's death, glorifying his "immortal" deeds, describing the deep grief of the Soviet people and their firm determination to continue Stalin's initiatives, to be worthy of Stalin's memory through higher and higher achievements in their labor. On the last pages, leading Soviet writers, artists, and poets compete in out-praising Stalin's genius in poems, drawings and short stories, as if he could rise from the dead and award them with a Stalin Prize for their zeal.
In very good condition. The cover shows minor scuffing not reaching Stalin's image, and a bit of wear to the edges and corners. There are partial separations at the head and foot of the fold line. There is sufficient space along the folding line of the cover to re-staple the internal pages which are now completely separated from it. The binding staples are a bit rusted but are strong and tight. There are no missing pages, and all the internal pages are in very good to excellent condition, showing just mild wear to the corners and edges. The special pin-up photo of Stalin lying in state shows a few hairlines, not easily noticeable and not detractive.
