Sitting Statue of Stalin, in glazed faience with gold accents, circa late 1940s - early 50s.
Very large and massive: 13 ½" tall, the base is 7 ½" x 10", and weighing over 8 lbs. Stalin is depicted in a sitting pose with his tobacco pipe in hand, a pose not commonly encountered among thousands of his sculptures, big or small. The sculpture does not have a factory trademark but is marked with the Cyrillic initials of the sculptor on the bottom of the base, "П.К." ("P.K.")
In excellent, outstanding condition. There are several bubbles in the mass, often encountered in faience sculptures, but all of them are under the glaze and not post-production wear. The golden Marshal's insignia on the shoulder boards are somewhat rubbed off, especially on the left shoulder, but elsewhere the golden accents are mostly intact and retain their original luster.
