WW2 Military Truck Registration Card issued to its driver on 27 December 1941.
Single page 7 ¾" x 4 ½", front only. Issued by the Army Field Construction Unit #40, 5th Army. The card contains the truck's model (GAZ-AA), engine number and chassis number, and was issued to a specific driver, Semyon Dzhaparidze, making the truck his personal responsibility. The statement at the bottom says that for accidents where the driver is at fault, and for abandoning the vehicle, the driver will face criminal charges equal to those for abandonment of, or damage to, his weapon.
In very good condition. The paper is slightly wrinkled, mostly along the left edge; the fold lines have been reinforced with tape on the verso. The yellowish stain in the lower right-side quadrant partially transposed to the left side when the card was folded, but it does not obscure any of the printed or handwritten material and is not too detractive.
To put this in historical perspective, on the date this card was issued, the 5th Army under the command of then Maj. Gen. Leonid Govorov, was fighting in the counteroffensive stage of the Battle of Moscow, specifically in the Rzhev-Vyazma offensive.
Please note that the medal in our photo is for size reference. And our last photo shows a column of GAZ-AA trucks, quite possibly with Semyon Dzhaparidze behind the wheel of one of them!
