Japan, Order of the Sacred Treasure 3rd class, post-2003 type on white enameled paulownia crest suspension, in original fitted case of issue.

The badge. Silver gilt, enamels, 83.0 mm in height (including the paulownia crest suspension), 52.4 mm in width, and weighing 48.3 g excluding the loop for the neck ribbon. The reverse is gold-plated, with the usual engraved characters meaning "order of merit decoration". The paulownia crest suspension is stamped with "C5". Excellent condition, no wear visible to the naked eye.

The case of issue is in black lacquered wood, 136.3 mm x 85.8 mm x 38.1 mm with a hinged fitted pad finished in purple velvet. The lid is lined with purple silk inside. The Order of the Sacred Treasure 3rd class is worn on a neck ribbon which is missing. In excellent condition. The lacquer is vibrantly shiny, the gold- plated kanji on the lid is pristine, the hinge is strong and tight, and the latch is in perfect working order.

The Order of the Sacred Treasure was founded by Emperor Meiji's edict of 1 January 1888 to be bestowed upon persons who had rendered distinguished service to the state. It was awarded to the military and civilians, and in May 1919 was extended to women.
