Full Cavalier of the Order of Glory Sr. Sgt. Еvsey Rossikhin (Евсей Фадеевич Россихин), inscribed photo portrait, late 1970s - early 80s.
Measures 3 ½" x 4 ¾", printed on thin matte photo paper. In the photo, we see Rossikhin in civil attire, wearing a full chest of decorations including three Orders of Glory, Order of the Red Star, Order of the Red Banner of Labor, Medal for Defense of Stalingrad, and several other WW2 and post-war awards.
In excellent condition. The paper is clean and unwrinkled, the image is in sharp focus providing an excellent opportunity for a good close look at the decorations.
Evsey Rossikhin (1913 - 1996) was born in a village in the Perm Region, Siberia, to the family of a peasant. Completed seven grades of school. Conscripted to the Red Army in June 1942, participated in the Battle of Stalingrad, liberated Ukraine, stormed Berlin.
On 26 September 1944, Guards Sr. Sgt. Rossikhin, mortar battery crew commander of the 244th Guards Rifle Regiment, 82nd Guards Rifle Division, 8th Army, 1st Belorussian Front, disabled with mortar fire 2 machine guns and over 10 Nazi soldiers at the Vistula bridgehead near the city of Ostroleka, Poland. For that, he was awarded the Order of Glory 3rd class.
On 15 January, 1945, he hit two machine gun emplacements, destroyed two dugouts, a mortar crew, and a detachment of enemy infantry with mortar fire. For that, he was awarded with the Order of Glory 2nd class.
In late April 1945, during the Battle of Berlin, Rossikhin's mortar fire destroyed an armored personnel carrier, 3 machine guns with crews, and about 20 Nazi soldiers. Shortly after that, he distinguished himself during the crossing of the Spree River, using mortar fire to allow the infantry to expand the bridgehead. In the process, he destroyed 4 machine gun emplacements and more than 30 enemy soldiers. Two days later, he destroyed a pillbox during the storming of the Teltow Canal. For his bravery and heroism, he was awarded with the Order of Glory 1st class.
