Award Badge of a Master Pig Farmer of the Gorky Region, 1970s.
Brass, enamels, lacquer; the medallion measures 28.9 mm in height incl. eyelet, 28.8 mm in width; overall height with suspension is approx. 39 mm. The suspension device shows a running deer, the heraldic emblem of the Gorky Region (previously Nizhny Novgorod Province) of Russia and has the Leningrad Mint logo "LMD" in raised characters on the reverse. A high-quality badge in excellent condition.
The Gorky Region of Russia was one of the few in the USSR that issued its own awards for achievements in agriculture. Made at the mint rather than one of the lesser manufacturers, the Gorky badges are of much higher quality than most contemporary Soviet labor awards.
