Medal for Valor, Type 2 Variation 1, #1241171, circa early to mid-1944.
In silver; measures 42.2 mm in height incl. eyelet, 37.4 mm wide; weighs 27.1 g not including the suspension and connecting link. This is a so-called "short armor" sub-variation featuring a shorter protective skirt above the tank tracks on the side left to the viewer (it is thicker and sticks out much farther to the left beyond the outline of the track on the more common variety).
In outstanding, excellent condition, very uncommon for this WW2 soldier's award and especially for its "Short Armor" version. Both sides show practically no wear beside a few tiny, barely noticeable dings to the edge. The raised details of the tank and airplanes are pristine and exceptionally crisp. The original lacquer is completely intact, showing only the trademark craquelure but no chips - an extremely unusual case. There is an extremely attractive even patina to silver throughout.
Comes on original suspension device, a WW2 double-layer model in steel with self-locking pin. The old ribbon is very nicely preserved and sound. The connecting link appears to be original; its ends are still joined with solder. Overall, this is a truly superb example of a relatively uncommon vWW2 version of the Valor Medal - practically impossible to upgrade.
