Japan, Order of the Rising Sun, 6th class, on suspension ribbon, in original fitted issue case.

Silver, enamels and glass, 70.3 mm in height (incl. eyelet), 45.5 mm in width. Suspended on a paulownia crest of green leaves and purple flowers (3+5+3 flowers for the 6th class), veined on the obverse, and inscribed on the reverse with characters meaning "order of merit decoration". The paulownia crest is suspended from a jump ring connected to the suspension ribbon. The ribbon is in champagne-colored moiré silk with 5mm-wide red edges, much less common than the regulation white with red edges.

The issue case measures approx.132 x 65 x 31 mm, in solid wood, with beveled edges, finished in black lacquer The title decorates the lid in silver-plated kanji. Inside, the case is lined with purple silk and velvet, and has fitted spaces for the badge and suspension.

The badge is in excellent condition. All the components are pristine and show no wear visible to the naked eye. The ribbon is very clean; the metal hook and clasp on the ribbon are free of oxidation, and are affixed tightly.

The issue case is in excellent condition, showing just minimal storage wear and has retained its vibrant deep shine. The kanji on the lid is pristine. The inside lining is free of any wear or damage.

The Order of the Rising Sun, the first national decoration of Japan, was established by the Council of State Decree of April 10, 1875. It can be bestowed on the military and civilians, Japanese and foreign, as a general order or merit.
