Measures 3 ¼" x 4 ¾", printed on thin glossy photo paper. The verso has a handwritten dedication inscription, apparently from the sergeant to his sweetheart, reading, rather enigmatically, "For good memory to Marusya from Nikolai. Remember our meeting in 9 years, that was (16 Dec. 1939). We parted on 24 December 1939."

In excellent condition. The image is in sharp focus, the traces of the indentations from the corner slits holding the photo in an album page become visible only when tilting the photo to reflect a bright light, and so are the minute scuffs to the emulsion. The inscription on the verso is crisp and perfectly legible.
