MVD Higher Political Academy (VPU), graduation badge, pinback version, circa 1980s.

Brass, enamels, 47.3 x 38.4 mm. Very impressive, high-quality badge. In excellent condition.

Located in Leningrad, VPU (for Vyschee Politicheskoye Uchilishche) was a school exclusively for training correctional officers for the Soviet prisons and forced labor camps. The Higher Political Academy was disbanded soon after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. The badge is one of several versions issued by the VPU, as each department had a badge of its own design for the graduates.
