Excellent Railway Signalman badge, circa late 1940s.

Brass, enamels; measures 38.2 mm in height from the bottom to the highest point of the flag not including the flagpole finial, 26.6 mm in width; weighs 11.9 g without the screw plate. T Relatively early variation featuring well-defined relief to the central oval portion of the badge and silver finish. The screw post is approx. 3.3 - 3.4 mm in diameter.

In excellent condition. The enamel is perfect which is very uncommon for a badge for WW2 era, especially as uncommon as the Railroad Signalman. The red enamel on the banner, plaque and signals branch insignia is completely free of any chips, repairs or even the tiniest flakes, having only a few microscopic contact marks that are completely invisible to the naked eye. The white enamel in the center is likewise essentially perfect. The raised details of the artwork show almost no wear; the silver finish is well-preserved on the obverse and pristine on the reverse. The screw post is of full length, approx. 12 mm, and includes an original post-1945 screw plate marked "ShM Z-D MPS."

This badge is by far the hardest to find of the Railway Proficiency Series of 1943-57.
