Photo Postcard with a View on a Lake in a Park in St. Petersburg, Russia, 1909.

The size is standard 5 ½" x 3 ½", inscribed, postally marked and cancelled. Interestingly, the postal marks are not in their placeholder on the verso but under the photo on the obverse. The sender wrote "on the other side" in the placeholder to alert the postal worker to that irregularity. The caption under the photo on the obverse identifies the place as the Lake at the Strelka in St. Petersburg, Russia.

An interesting detail: the cancellation stamps have the words "Postal Carriage", telling us that the sender dropped the postcard to a postal railroad car rather than a post office in a building.

The verso features a graphic logo in the upper left-hand corner, inscribed "For the benefit of the St. Evgeniya Society". Evidently, the postcard was issued for charitable fundraising purposes.

The message is in English, addressed to a Ms. Lottie Clarke at 39 Bank Street in Attleboro, MA. Our romantic hope to see an old charming Victorian house at this address on Google Maps was crushed by technological progress. Now 39 Bank Street is a Verizon building.

In good to very good condition. The obverse shows quite a bit of staining but its sepia color help the stains to blend in and not to be too detractive. The verso, with all its interesting text and charity logo shows only mild discoloration along the edges but is otherwise clean. The printed and handwritten text is crisp and perfectly legible.
