Hand-Painted Porcelain Coffee Service for 6 Persons, by LFZ (ЛФЗ), 1960s.
The set is comprised of 13 items: coffee pot with lid and six cup-and-saucer pairs. The coffee pot, standing 7 ½" tall to the tip of the lid and holding up to 1 liter (a little over 1 qt.) of coffee comfortably is well-proportioned to serve six persons. The hand-painted artwork is positioned to flow elegantly from the lip down, and the cool palette of the light floral ornament speaks summer shade, a house on a lake with a veranda, relaxation, and peace of mind.
As is always the case with hand-painted artwork on porcelain, no two elements of the ornament are identical, and it is another kind of calm contemplative pleasure to peruse its details looking for the differences.
Each item is maker marked on the bottom. This version of the logo of the Lomonosov Porcelain Factory was in use in the 1960s (fig. # 489 in Volume One of Marks on Soviet Porcelain, Faience, and Majolica, 1917-1991 by Nasonova et al).
The set is in very good to excellent condition. There is a number of what we would call "manufacturing accidents", such as small spots of missing glaze on a saucer, or an occasional dark dot under the glaze, but they are tiny in size and barely noticeable. One cup has a closed hair-thin crack, again hardly visible. We tried our best to capture it in one of our photos. And that crack is perhaps the only item of post-production wear or damage visible to the naked eye.
Please note that the teaspoon in our photos is for size reference.
