Mongolia, Honored Railway Employee Badge, circa 1980s.

Gilded brass, lacquer, hot-baked enamels. The pendant measures 45.7 mm in height including the eyelet, 30.3 mm in width, and weighs 20.1 g not including the suspension and connecting link. The pendant is of riveted three-piece construction: the railway locomotive and railroad emblem of crossed hammer and wrench are separate superimposed parts. This relatively early, higher-quality version of the badge features all-hot- baked enamels (as opposed to the partly "cold" enamels used on the later, two-piece version of the medallion.) Although not mint marked, the quality of the badge is typical of Soviet mint manufacture.

In excellent, near mint condition. The enamels and gold finish are flawless. The screw post is full length, nearly 13 mm, and comes with the original unmarked screw plate in nickel-plated brass.

The design of the badge is clearly inspired by the contemporary Soviet badge of Honored Railway Employee. Curiously, this award was manufactured and issued after the breakup of the USSR and fall of Communism in Russia, while Mongolia was still in transitional period. The later version of the badge was made in post-Soviet Russia on commission from Mongolian government, and it was of somewhat lower quality but still featuring the communist-era national flag with Soembo emblem and inscription in Cyrillic script.
