Medal for the Liberation of Prague, Variation 1, circa 1945-47.
In brass; 32.1 mm wide; weighs 16.9 g not including the suspension and connecting link.
In outstanding, excellent condition. The medallion is completely free of edge bumps, scratches or any other wear visible to the unaided eye; there are only a few microscopic contact marks completely unnoticeable without magnification. The raised details are perfect and exceptionally crisp on both sides. The toning to the brass is perfectly even and extremely attractive, free of blemishes or significant oxidation spots; the original "gilt" mint luster is clearly visible in recessed areas.
Comes on an original suspension device, an early post-war two-layer model in steel and brass with an integral catch of the pin. The ribbon is old, possibly original to the medal; although it is faded and shows mild staining in its upper portion, it looks neat and sound, adding a great amount of character to the medal. Note that it is wrapped "in reverse" as is sometimes the case with the early campaign medals. The connecting link also appears to be of the period.
Overall, superb, exceptionally attractive example of the Variation 1 Prague Medal.
