Order of the Red Star, Type 6, Variation 2 ("MZPP"), #1927468, circa early to mid-1945.
Silver, enamels; 45.8 mm tall x 48.2 mm wide; weighs 28.8 g not including the screw plate. This piece is a relatively scarce version manufactured in 1945 at the Moscow Platinpribor Factory (MZPP). It is from the first, smaller MZPP series with serial numbers 1792001 through 195000. Features characteristically sloppy serial number engraving and very small font of the "Monetnyi Dvor" mint mark which is stamped in straight lines. As typical of the MZPP issues, there is an "extension" of the soldier's bayonet in the center medallion that "punctures" the inner ring of the medallion and reaches to the letter "O" of the last word of the slogan. The reverse is relatively flat, without a depression in its lower part.
In very fine to excellent condition. There is a single shallow surface flake at the upper edge of the lower right arm; the enamel also has a number of tiny contact marks that are barely noticeable to the naked eye. There are no rubbing or glaring flaws; the enamel retains a very attractive luster.
The center medallion is extremely well preserved, showing only a minimal wear to the high points and a couple of microscopic dings; its details remain exceptionally crisp. There is an attractive even toning to silver on both sides. The screw post is full length, over 11 mm, and includes an original WW2 era screw plate.
