Hallmarked 14K Gold Poljot mechanical wristwatch, by First Moscow Watch Factory, 1974.

In round case 34mm in diameter, 17 jewels caliber. Analog face with golden indices and hands with black inserts, big seconds - also in contrasting black. The brand name, number of jewels and "made in USSR" on the dial are in Russian, indicative of the watch's designation for the internal market. The "583" hallmark (equivalent to 14K) is stamped on the back of the case. The golden caseback features the hallmark with the hammer-and-sickle inside a star, the number 583, and "4 МДМФ" mark underneath where 4 stands for 1974, and МДМФ is the designation in Cyrillics for Moscow Mint, USSR Finance Ministry, the manufacturer of the golden case. The total weight, including the movement, is 28.22 grams (0.995 oz.)

The watch comes with a "Condor Adria" calf grain leather wristband in never-worn condition.

The watch is in excellent condition The wear to the case is minuscule and all but invisible to the naked eye. The crystal is acrylic, possibly a replacement, exceptionally clean and free of scuffs or scratches. The movement is in good working condition but probably would benefit from a maintenance service: our 24-hour test showed approx. +5 minutes.

The "Poljot" brand was a child of the Soviet space exploration program. The first Poljot watches were manufactured by the Kirov First Moscow Watch Factory in 1960, inspired by the successful flight of the Sputnik artificial satellites.

The First Moscow Watch Factory was founded in 1930 in response to the growing need in timepieces for the People's Commissariat of Railways and the Red Army. For that, an entire Dueber-Hampden watch-manufacturing facility with production capacity of 200-250 thousand watches was purchased, transported, and assembled. In 1935 the factory was given the honorary name of Sergey Kirov. At the very beginning of the Great Patriotic War the factory was evacuated to the city of Zlatoust in the Urals but returned to Moscow in 1942. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the factory was reorganized into a corporation. In 2005, the MakTime Watch Factory Ltd. bought out the equipment and technology of the Polyot First Moscow Watch Factory, putting an end to its history but beginning a new chapter for the Poljot brand.
