Photo Government Postcard Happy 1 May, artist signed, 1988.

The size is continental 6 x 4", postally unused, government postal marked. The pre-printed postal mark features the USSR State Emblem, perhaps the most widely used stamp at the time. Published by the USSR Ministry of Communications, circulation 23,000,000 copies. The artwork is a color photo of a flower arrangement. The inscription on top of the flowers reads "Happy 1 May!" The photographer's name, I Dergilev, is printed on the divider line on the verso.

In excellent condition. Minimal shelf wear to the obverse - minuscule corner bumps and microscopic wear to the laminate layer at the edges - is hardly noticeable and not detractive. The verso shows just a faint small smear, otherwise nearly pristine.

Note that by the end of the Soviet era the political side of 1 May as the Day of International Solidarity of Workers fades out, yielding to a warm tasteful visual reminder of joyful springtime.
