Lot of eighteen official press-release photo portraits of top Soviet Party and Government officials, circa 1970s-80s.

The photos measure approx. 5" x 7 ½", b/w, printed on semi-gloss heavy-stock paper.

These photos represent "the last of the Mohicans" of the Soviet regime. They were at the very pinnacle of the Party and Government apparatus when the Soviet Union was teetering on the brink of collapse. Those who lived past 1991 continued to occupy high posts in the new Russian government (food for thought and an excellent conversational point!)

The photos are in excellent, near-mint condition, showing just an occasional microscopic corner bump.

Iconostases with these portraits graced the walls of most, if not all, school classrooms where history was taught, hallways and foyers of all military, educational, party, and governmental buildings of all levels, administrative buildings of factories, plants, and collective farms. The same portraits, much enlarged, were carried on long poles during the mandatory demonstrations of workers' international solidarity on 1 May, and on each anniversary of the October revolution on 7 November. The country had to know its heroes. It just had to.

Please note that the pen in our photo is for size reference.
