Set of two "near-pair" candlesticks, in bronze, circa late XIX - early XX C.
Despite a slight difference in shape, the items are very similar and will make a fine "near-pair". Each is approx. 9 ¾" tall, the base is 4" x 4". Rather heavy at close to 3 lbs. each. True to their "near-pair" nature, the items show slight differences in shape, as well as in the color of the patina, probably due to differences in exposure to moisture, but possibly just because the lighter one was simply polished more often. The patina is very attractive, mild, and even in both cases.
The stems are screwed into the bases and sit in place very tightly. Our attempts to unscrew them by hand did not yield even an iota of movement.
In excellent condition. One of the items has a tiny nick to the metal of the round part of the base, and that constitutes the entirety of damage to the pair. Tiny spots of verdigris add to the air of age and authenticity, very attractive.
Please note that the rose in our photo is for size reference. Well, also to suggest how romantic it would be to have a candlelight dinner with these two. And in between romantic dinners they will adorn your mantel or a book shelf.
