Tokarev SVT-40 bayonet complete with scabbard and integral leather frog, early 1940s.
Blade is 9 3/4", fullered. The scabbard is second type, featuring a flat point. There are several stamped maker marks / quality inspection stamps at the throat of the blade and the scabbard, including a star-shaped trademark of the Tula Arsenal. The grip has a stamped serial number "566". The scabbard has the original integral leather frog.
The blade is in superb condition showing almost no wear and totally free of pitting or rust (Soviet practice was for the arsenal to re-blue every bayonet before putting it into storage). Scabbard is also in excellent condition, with none of the usual big dents to the flat portions or dings to the lip. The hardwood grip is extremely well-preserved with almost all of the original warmish still present, no significant wear, chips or cracks. The retaining mechanism.in the pommel functions smoothly. This bayonet was coated in Cosmoline at some point after WW 2 and spent the next several decades in storage - until the Soviet Army no longer needed it, having accumulated enough inventory of an entirely new generation of weapons.
