Certificate of Achievement and Honorary Title of Shock Worker of the First Five-Year Plan issued to Iosif Gurevich (Иосиф Маркович Гуревич), a construction worker, 1932.

Single page 8 ¾" x 11 ½". Overbrimming with graphics symbolizing the achievements of the First Five-Year Plan of economic development in every conceivable area of the country's economy. The artist's handwritten name, A. Lyubimovsky, is visible in the lower right-hand corner. The blank certificate is published by the Orenburg local typographical plant, circulation mere 2,500 copies.

Stalin's appeal and slogan to fulfill the five-year plan in four years is at top center of the certificate.

The certificate is issued by the "triangle" of the Orenburg City Construction Enterprise. In the Soviet 1030s vernacular, such a "triangle" consisted of the head of the enterprise, the chief of its Communist Party cell, and the chief of its trade union unit. A rather transparent allusion to the ancient Roman "triumvirate", a Freudian slip popular among the power-hungry Bolshevik "servants of the people" of the 1930s.

The recipient of the certificate was also awarded with the honorary title of "Shockworker of the First Pyatiletka, the Bolshevik acronym for "five-year plan".

In very good condition. The certificate is printed on thick but uncoated paper, so it is not very surprising that the graphics show mild to moderate scuffing. However, the colors are vivid and bright, the lettering perfectly legible, both typographic and handwritten. A couple of short separations at the fold line and the bottom right-hand corner have been repaired with clear Scotch tape on the verso.

Please note that the pen in our photo is for size reference.
